Meet the Team
Michael Douglas
Owner
Michael founded Douglas Lawn Care in 2018 and has grown the company from a small lawn care operation into what it is today. As the company has continued to grow, Michael has taken a step back from the everyday mowing crew to focus more of his time on running and building the business. He still fills in with the mowing crews when needed, but much of his time is now spent managing the company and performing cemetery sexton work, including burials, foundations, cemetery maintenance, and other responsibilities for the townships Douglas Lawn Care serves. Michael remains very hands on in the business and is always looking for ways to improve the company and the service it provides.
Julian
crew lead
Julian joined Douglas Lawn Care in 2023 and has grown into an important part of our team. As a Crew Leader, he helps oversee daily mowing operations, keeping the crew organized and on schedule, and makes sure each property is completed to our standards. Julian is experienced with our equipment and day to day operations and is someone we can count on to keep things running smoothly in the field.
Randy
Crew Member
Randy started working for Douglas Lawn Care in 2025. He has quickly became a dependable part of our team. He takes pride in his work and is capable of handling jobs independently when needed. Whether he's mowing, trimming, or helping tackle other projects, Randy can be counted on to get the job done right. And if you happen to hear someone singing while they're mowing or trimming, theres a pretty good chance its Randy!
Our Story
Douglas Lawn Care started in 2018, but my roots in the Bloomingdale and Grand Junction area go back much further than that. I was born and raised here, graduated from Bloomingdale, and have spent my entire life in this community. Today, my wife, Bree, and I are raising our four children here. Our kids attend Bloomingdale Public Schools, our family attends Bloomingdale Christian Church, and we continue to call this area home.

Bloomingdale and Grand Junction aren’t simply places where I decided to start a business. This is where I grew up, where we’re raising our family, and where I hope to continue making a difference for many years to come.

Growing Up on the Family Farm
​
A lot of the work ethic behind Douglas Lawn Care started long before the company existed.
​
I grew up working on our family farm, Douglas Family Farms, which is my dad’s business. When I was growing up, the farm was primarily known for Christmas trees. Over the years, it transitioned into blueberry farming and continues operating today.
​
Growing up on a farm taught me how to work hard, operate and maintain equipment, solve problems when things don’t go according to plan, and understand that sometimes the job simply has to get done. When equipment breaks, the weather doesn’t cooperate, or you have a long day ahead of you, you figure it out and keep moving.
​
Those lessons have carried directly into the way I run Douglas Lawn Care today.
​
After graduating from Bloomingdale, I attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where I studied business. I eventually went to work at Bronson Methodist Hospital, but I always had the desire to build something of my own.
​
Starting Douglas Lawn Care
​
In 2018, I decided to give it a shot and started Douglas Lawn Care.
​
Like most small businesses, it didn’t begin with a huge operation, a fleet of equipment, or hundreds of customers. It started with taking on work, building relationships, reinvesting in equipment, and trying to do a good enough job that people would continue calling us back and recommending us to their friends and neighbors.
​
Over time, the business continued to grow. What started as something I was building on the side eventually became large enough that I was able to leave my job at Bronson Methodist Hospital and put my full focus into Douglas Lawn Care.
​
That was a major step for me and my family, and the company has continued growing ever since.
​
Today, Douglas Lawn Care maintains more than 100 accounts throughout Bloomingdale, Grand Junction and the surrounding communities. We work with residential and commercial customers as well as churches, townships and other local properties.
​
Our services have also grown beyond simply mowing lawns. Today we provide lawn mowing, leaf cleanups, snow plowing and other property maintenance services throughout the area.
​
Serving Our Local Cemeteries
​
One of the biggest changes to Douglas Lawn Care over the years has been our involvement with local cemeteries.
What began as mowing and maintaining cemetery grounds eventually grew into something much larger. Today, Douglas Lawn Care provides cemetery sexton services for both Bloomingdale Township and Columbia Township.
​
Between the two townships, we help care for 11 cemeteries throughout the area.
​
Our cemetery work includes mowing and grounds maintenance, burials, cremation burials, headstone foundations, cemetery cleanups and the other responsibilities that come with helping maintain these properties.
​
This part of the business is different from normal lawn care. Cemeteries are important places in a community, and the work has to be treated that way. Families are trusting us to take care of the final resting places of people they love, and we take that responsibility seriously.
​
For me personally, there is also something meaningful about being able to serve cemeteries in the same communities where I grew up. Many of the names on the stones are names I recognize. They are families from Bloomingdale, Grand Junction and the surrounding area, and in some cases they are people I knew personally.
​
It has become a part of Douglas Lawn Care that I never really expected when I started the company in 2018, but it is now one of the parts of the business I am most proud of.
​
More Than Just Lawn Care
​
As Douglas Lawn Care has grown, one thing I have tried not to lose is the fact that we are still a local, family-owned business.
​
We aren’t a national company or a franchise coming into the area. We live here.
​
The same roads our trucks travel every day are roads I’ve traveled my entire life. Our customers are our neighbors. Our children go to school with their children and grandchildren. We attend local events, support local organizations and businesses, and see many of the people we work for around town.
​
That makes our reputation incredibly important to me.
​
I want people to know that when they hire Douglas Lawn Care, they’re hiring a company that plans on being part of this community for the long haul. Whether we’re mowing someone’s home, maintaining a commercial property, plowing snow, cleaning up leaves, taking care of township property, or preparing a cemetery for a burial, I want our work to be something we’re proud to put the Douglas Lawn Care name on.

Looking Ahead
​
It’s pretty incredible for me to look back at where Douglas Lawn Care started in 2018 and compare it to where we are today.
​
What started as an idea to build something of my own has turned into a business that supports my family, provides jobs for others, maintains more than 100 properties, works with local businesses and municipalities, and helps care for cemeteries throughout the communities I have called home my entire life.
​
But I also don’t consider the story finished.
​
My goal is to continue growing Douglas Lawn Care without losing what made the business successful in the first place: working hard, treating people fairly, being dependable, taking pride in our equipment and our work, and remembering that our customers aren’t just account numbers. They’re our neighbors.
​
I learned many of those values growing up on Douglas Family Farms, and they’re the same values I hope to continue building Douglas Lawn Care around.
​
Bree and I are proud to be raising our family here, proud to operate our business here, and thankful for the customers, townships, churches, school's, businesses and families who have trusted Douglas Lawn Care over the years.

Bloomingdale and Grand Junction aren’t just where we work. They’re home.
